Robert Jennison RWA
1 APRIL – 13 APRIL 2019 at The Beehive Honiton
Robert is a seasoned exhibitor whose reputation as an outstanding painter and draftsman precedes him. A life time’s dedication to art education followed by nearly 30 years of working as a professional artist makes Jennison one of the regions most successful and celebrated artists.
Jennison studied at the West of England College of Art, Bristol. He taught Art in secondary schools in Gloucestershire and Bristol until 1965 when he joined the staff of St Luke’s College, Exeter as Lecturer in Art Education and Art History, specialising in graphics, printmaking and photography.
After the College merged with the University of Exeter as the School of Education he taught on the postgraduate Art Education course. During this time he was also external examiner in Wales for the B.Ed. Degree for three years, and with HMI he organised courses for practising art teachers in Somerset. During the 1980s he lectured on 20th Century British Art for the Beloit College USA Summer School in Britain. Jennison left teaching in 1984.
He has exhibited paintings, prints and photographs regularly since 1961, with solo shows in London, Milan, Belfast, Bristol and Exeter. He is a member of the Royal West of England Academy and exhibits regularly with the Royal Ulster Academy in Belfast. His work is represented in public and private collections in Europe, Canada and the USA.
Now in his eighth decade, Robert continues to produce vigorous landscape paintings from his East Devon studio. The subject is often Dartmoor or Brittany, each work is based on a series of drawings and photographs exploring the subject itself and the change from being ‘of’ the subject to being ‘about’ it.
