The Beehive Handed over on 10th March

After over twenty years of hoping, planning and working The Beehive was officially opened on Wednesday 12th March 2014. Leaders of East Devon District Council and Devon County Council joined with members of Honiton Town Council and invited guests to mark this great day for Honiton. Town Crier, Dave Retter rang his bell and called out his proclamation. Mayor David Foster welcomed everyone as they assembled outside the building in glorious Spring sunshine. Three students from Littletown Primary School joined with Beehive pioneer Vernon Whitlock to plant a tree to mark the occasion. The mayor was then joined by long time Beehive advocate, Councillor Vivienne Ash as he cut the ribbon to open the building. Everyone assembled in the Beehive Cafe and first the Mayor then Councillor Whitlock thanked everyone who had played their part in bringing Honiton Community Centre from dream to reality. Among those present were past Mayors of the town, Directors of The Beehive Company and the Head Teacher and students from Honiton Community College. Guided tours of the building followed.
