East Devon has a rich network of cultural organisations and community groups, many of whom make regular use of The Beehive.
We work with performing arts partner organisations such as East Devon Dance Academy, Theatre Kidz, Honiton Town Band, Honiton Community Theatre Company and instrumental music teachers who help nurture local talent. We offer education in science, the arts and literature through our partnerships with the University of the Third Age, The Arts Society Honiton, IntoFilm festival and Honiton Festival of Imagination.
We also host monthly Acoustic open mic nights and Beehive Folk Café which attracts musicians from across East Devon, West Dorset and South Somerset. It offers opportunities for participation, enjoyment, achievement, networking and develops opportunities to support larger music acts in gigs at The Beehive.
We programme Visual Arts exhibitions in the Beehive gallery which champion the work of high-quality semi-professional and professionals in the South-West. Following our extremely rewarding Immersive Theatre School at Beer Quarry Caves, it seemed like there was a real appetite for more year-round opportunities. Four of Swords are offering a unique course in adapting Greek Myths into a compelling, supercool theatre scripts.

We will be using the myth of Odysseus and the Cyclops as our starting point, weaving in other inspirations and analysing different versions of the myths, and culminating in a table read with a selection of professional actors, giving direct and tailored feedback to the students on their scripts.
The plan is that the best ideas from these sessions will provide the basis of the script for our 2024 Immersive Theatre School production, which will be EVEN BIGGER AND BETTER than this year’s!
