The Beehive, Honiton’s community venue, is celebrating achieving a national accolade which highlights that it is “Fantastic For Families”.
The Beehive has become an officially-registered venue for the Family Arts Standards.
The Family Arts Standards campaign is a national collaborative led by the visual and performing arts sectors to increase levels of arts engagement by families and is funded by the Arts Council England. The standards are designed as a benchmark for organisations providing an exceptional welcome to families when attending an arts event – covering key areas such as programming and promotion, consultation with families, and facilities.
The Beehive presents a range of events suitable for children and families throughout the year including films, theatre performances, pantomimes and shows and hands-on events. Partner organisations also run dance, creative arts and amateur theatre groups for children and young people of all ages.
The building is very accessible to families with free parking, baby changing and “changing places” facilities, easy access and storage for wheelchairs and children’s buggies, high chairs and free tap water in the café, plus auditorium booster seats.
“The Family Arts Standards has been an excellent process to go through” said Katheryn Hope, Deputy Operation Manager at The Beehive. “It has made us consider how we can improve our offer and communications to families and ensure that every visit is an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”
