January View from The Beehive

It was wondrous to have the Beehive thronging with folk coming to all sorts of diverse events from the Xmas dinner dance, sing- songs and parties in the bar, a special community Xmas lunch, two sell out showings of The Lady in the Van, two packed houses for Defrosted, several children visited Father Christmas and his Elf, all culminating with a fantastic, sell- out gig by Mad Dog Mcrea.

With this fabulously busy run up to Xmas all of the staff and volunteers have had a well deserved break, to rest and re-fuel in readiness for a great 2016!

The Oscars will soon be upon us and we have some of the hot contenders for the top awards coming to The Beehive Cinema over the coming months: Bridge Of Spies, Love and Mercy, Brooklyn, Suffragette, Carol and The Martian to name a few.

We are also excited to be having the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Live season coming to The Beehive too, beginning with the encore screening of ‘The Winter’s Tale’, Shakespeare’s timeless tragicomedy of obsession and redemption on Friday 8th Jan at 7pm.

On Saturday 16th January we have a special screening of ‘Florence and The Uffizi Gallery’ a wonderful guided tour of Italy’s most renowned pieces for art lovers and students.

The brilliant, award winning, playwright/actor Pip Utton, returns to the Beehive on Sat 30th Jan with his extremely interesting, poignant and beautifully observed show about Charlie Chaplin’s life in ‘Chaplin’, I thoroughly recommend it.

Delighted to have Mark Chadwick, lead man from The Levellers and one of the UK’s most successful songwriters coming to perform on 6th of Feb. We are also thrilled to be hosting the opening concert on ‘Show of Hands’ next UK tour in April. These gigs, along with the return of Police Dog Hogan, in May and Rusty Shackle in April, will hopefully, be some of the highlights for our next year at The Beehive.

If you haven’t tried out your local community centre, give it a go in 2016 See Peter Pan in half term  or try out Line Dancing on Wednesdays, Le Roc, modern jive on Thursday evenings from 8pm is great fun and a brilliant way to get fit too!

There are monthly Folk and Acoustic café sessions, where you can come along and perform or just enjoy listening whilst you relax in the bar, a great introduction to the Beehive! See you soon,
