Keep The Beehive Buzzing!

PLEASE HELP TO SECURE OUR FUTURE

At the beginning of March, we launched a Keep The Beehive Buzzing fundraising campaign page with the help of Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)  who will collect donations on our behalf and also reclaim Gift Aid. Your support, whether a one-off or regular donation, will make a difference and help ensure the community can continue to benefit from all The Beehive has to offer.

Why do we need to do this?

With an annual footfall of over 60,000, The Beehive in Honiton is a fantastic venue for all in the community – the elderly, middle-aged, the young, parents and their children. Cinema, live music gigs, theatre, dance, live streaming, art exhibitions, classes, community events, and room-hire to community organisations, businesses, public sector organisations and special interest groups – it’s all available here in Honiton, and its reputation reaches far and wide. In the 5 years since opening, the venue has gone from strength to strength picking up awards for ‘Best Venue’ and ‘Community Centre of the Year’.

The whole operation is run by only 1 full-time (operations and customer service), 4 part-time employees (finance/room bookings, programming, marketing, technical operations) and a fantastic group of 80 + volunteers, who love it here as valued members of the team. Volunteers help by staffing the reception desk and box office, stewarding at events, setting up rooms, projecting films, sound and lighting and working in the café bar. The charity trustees/directors are also unpaid volunteers. The building is open 7 days a week from 10 to 15 hours a day. We’ve managed to be financially stable for the last 5 years and have worked really hard to provide a safe, clean, friendly and vibrant venue for the area.

The Beehive is a well-run community facility which provides opportunities for friendship, education, entertainment, social connectivity, engagement with the arts, stretching our imaginations, celebrating meaningful stories, exposure to new knowledge and ideas, and much enjoyment. It is important to us. But, with no local authority grants and spending cuts imposed on local councils, we need supplementary funding to secure our future.
