The Beehive pays back loan to Town Council

HONITON COMMUNITY COMPLEX, the not-for-profit business and registered charity set up to operate THE BEEHIVE has repaid its £5,000 start-up loan to Honiton Town Council earlier than forecast. The achievement was announced earlier this week by The Directors of The Beehive.

Barry Simmonds, Chairman of the Beehive, said it was exciting to reach such a significant milestone. “That the Beehive is able to repay the loan ahead of schedule is a terrific achievement and testament to its success which saw it exceeding its business plan goals in 2016.” Mr Simmonds also praised the dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteers, staff, directors and advisory board, all of whom work hard to keep The Beehive sustainable.

The Beehive opened its doors in April 2014 and its footfall in the last year has been in excess of 56,000 people. It is a venue for community and cultural events which appeal across the generations and is an integral part of Honiton’s community with over 70 organisations and groups using the building.

Last year it won the East Devon District Council’s Community award. It’s mission is ‘to create a vibrant and stimulating centre that engages, challenges, entertains, supports, educates and encompasses our whole community’.
