OUR MISSION

The Beehive is run by a community-led charity (Honiton Community Complex Charity No. 1162412).
Our small staff team is supported by some 80 volunteers. We all share a combined passion for the community and the arts. Our mission is “To create a vibrant and stimulating arts and community centre that engages, challenges, entertains, supports, educates and encompasses our whole community.”

Our Business Plan

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The long-standing wish of the people of Honiton and Honiton Town Council to have a local Arts and Community Centre became reality when, in early 2014, Honiton Town Council completed £1.8m construction of a community venue. This became known as The Beehive.

Following a final vote at the Honiton Town Council Meeting on 10th March 2015, the Council and Honiton Community Complex company signed a 10-year Lease and Service Level Agreement. A Deed of Variation relating to the lease was agreed In March 2021.

Honiton Community Complex , (Registered Charity number 1162412), was established to help realise the public wish and to support the building, equipping and ongoing operation of The Beehive. It plays a vital role in the continuing development and success of The Beehive and helps ensure long-term viability.

The Trustee Board are listed here. The Charity Accounts and Trustee’ Annual reports can be read here.

Honiton Community Complex wholly owns Beehive Hospitality Ltd which rents, manages and runs the café/bar in the Beehive. Its principal objective is to support the charitable objectives of the parent company; these objectives are included in the governing document of the subsidiary. Also replicated are the terms of engagement of directors who are also Trustees of the parent charitable company i.e. remuneration of such directors is essentially prohibited. This subsidiary is an important source of donations to the Charity.

The Beehive is an officially-registered venue for the Family Arts Standards and Age-Friendly Standards.

In 2017, The Beehive was awarded Community Centre of the Year in the Devon Community Honours and in 2018 won Best Venue in the 373 Group awards.
